I love the way the Universe works. Greg and I “met” through a photographer’s forum, after he posted looking to trade an engagement session for a long weekend rental of his family’s Cape Cod vacation home. I replied, along with several others, as I’ve always loved the Cape – and the idea of using some of the very towns and beaches where I spent summers as an engagement session backdrop was totally appealing. Plus, it was the perfect opportunity to get together with my brother and his family who live in New England. The session went great (see it here), as did the weekend in their lovely beach house – and Colleen and Greg hired me to photograph their Martha’s Vineyard wedding. I think they also thought it was cool that their wedding date was the same as my birthday…

I planned to travel to the wedding solo, without the family this time (I can’t imagine balancing a destination wedding with a two year old and almost four year old in tow…) But, when I mentioned the upcoming trip to my great friend Cheryl (with whom I spent many of those summer days on the Cape and Islands) one night over dinner, she offered to assist. What a treat – and what an awesome assistant! I wish she didn’t have such a great day job or I’d hire her full time in a minute.

The wedding was at the gorgeous Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown, with the ceremony on the beach by the famous lighthouse. The hotel’s close proximity to town proved fortunate, as the guys had to take an quick detour to Vineyard Vines to have their bow ties tied! (Note to self: add that to my list of wedding day problem-solving skills…)

What started as a lark on an internet forum ended in a fantastic engagement session on familiar grounds, a weekend with my beloved family whom we don’t get to see often enough, a destination wedding road trip and weekend with one of my dearest friends, and a fantastic celebration with gorgeous weather for Greg and Colleen in one of the most beautiful corners of the world. So cool.

So, thank you, Universe. And, thank YOU for having a look at my images from their lovely wedding.
