Hi, I’m Karin.
I crave good coffee, crusty bread with real butter, and fresh air. My love for my kids is primal. I am a long-time horse person, and a former upper-level Eventer. I worked in Animal Health pharma for 12 years – in roles that encompassed sales, distribution management, sales training, key account education (universities/teaching hospitals), and event planning. I earned the status of DiSC Certified Trainer, SPIN Selling Trainer, and Six Sigma Green Belt. I absolutely loved my job, and I was very good at it.
But, here’s the thing: I had been a photographer on the side for 20+ years – and what was once just a fulfilling, creative outlet was becoming an organically growing business. We had our daughter Natalie in 2009, and I realized I could no longer (read: didn’t want to) be away 80+ nights per year. So my husband and I had a meeting, and we decided to make my photography business legit. We are so glad we did. We added our son Luke to the mix in 2011, so in order to maintain some semblance of sanity I honed my specialties to four main areas: commercial work, editorial work, portraits, and weddings.
I love each segment for different reasons, but over the past year it’s become abundantly clear that I possess a unique niche that helps me stand out in the world of commercial photography: I know the sport horse world, I know the Animal Health Industry, and I know the Equine Veterinary Industry. I know sales, sales training, and personality dynamics. I’ve detailed from the marketing pieces that companies and ad agencies work hard to perfect. I know what sells, and I can often execute photo shoots (especially Equine and Animal Health) without the need for a full creative team in tow. I’m professional, reliable, and I love helping people make money. I am an avid supporter of my community and local businesses, and have helped countless local companies grow and thrive. I appreciate the way food looks, how it is prepared, and where it comes from as much as the way it tastes. So, there you have it: farms, food, community, and the Animal Health Industry are simply part of my nature, so I’m an excellent bet for your related projects.
I loved my wedding clients, but in order to truly focus on what I love most (helping businesses grow and thrive) I no longer photograph weddings. I am, however, happy to refer you to my amazing network of like-minded, incredibly talented colleagues!
So, what about portrait sessions? The answer is, I will always do a few. I absolutely adore my portrait clients – they have truly become my extended family. One of the most valuable gifts I can offer is documenting a day in the life of a family through photographs – the honest, unscripted beauty of life, right now. I can be also persuaded to squeeze in a few “mini” portrait sessions, if you are looking for a smaller, but still candid, snippet of life.
So, what’s with the logo? A very good friend who is familiar with my Mother’s incredible artwork and legacy of creating beautiful paintings, meals, music (and so much more) once said: “Clearly the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” It was the nicest compliment anyone could ever pay me, and served as my inspiration.
Thank you for taking a minute to learn about me. Please shoot me an email or give me a call to let me know more about you, and how we can work together.
